Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017, and quickly became the number one streamed track in just 6 months. The combination of reggaeton and pop music has not only brought interest back to this genre but also to Latin music generally. In 2015 there were only two mostly Spanish-language songs on Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. During the height of Despacito's popularity in 2017, however, 19 mostly Spanish tracks made the Top 100, and in 2020 there were 41 such songs. Justin Bieber remixed Despacito 2017 as a bilingual rendition. In the following months, several artistes collaborated with Reggaeton's biggest stars such as Drake and Bad Bunny with MIA (2018), Madonna and Maluma together with Medellin 2019 Some reggaeton artists lamented the trend towards popular music by 2020. But a new band, Rauw Alejandro, wanted to continue the development and growth of reggaeton. He often used electronic dance, as well as other types.
